The Day I Jumped Out Of A Plane

Skydiving

It was January 1st, 2013 and I decided to tackle an item on my life list.I made a reservation with a skydiving company in San Diego, CA.

ON THE GROUND
When I got there, I filled out some paperwork stating that if I died, they weren’t responsible. Fair enough. I was introduced to my instructor, who showed me what positions I should take for jumping, free-falling and landing. I paid extra for a video so I could share the experience with my friends and family and boy, was it worth it!

IN THE PLANE
The camera started rolling as we boarded the small plane behind the office. We flew over to the coast and turned back onto the mainland. The instructor secured the camera to our gear and opened the airplane door. It was then that I knew there was no turning back. I swung my legs out the plane and jumped at 10,000 feet.

FREE-FALLING
We dropped at 120mph for more than 40 seconds. My stomach felt like it was floating. The longer we fell, the colder it got. My face was frozen and locked in place courtesy of the strong winds. Then I started thinking… What if something goes terribly wrong? What If the parachute doesn’t open? I pushed the negativity aside and watched the world around me in awe. I was at eye level with the clouds, and the city was beautifully spread out below me.

Before I knew it, the parachute was up and everything slowed down. We glided down seamlessly as we admired the spectacular view before us.  I could see the Pacific Ocean, San Diego and Mexico all at once. We landed in a field and drove back to the main office.  I felt dizzy and I couldn’t hear out of my left ear for the rest of the afternoon, but it was all worth it.

This was, by far, the craziest thing I’ve ever done and I’m not sure anything will ever be able to top it.
